He’ll be on the shelf at least 10 months, and was placed on the 60-day disabled list. Luis Gonzáles has been removed from the starting rotation and assigned long relief duties for now. Two-way player Paul Kemp will join the rotation for the time being.

First Baseman Mark Simpson strained a hamstring during the team’s May 10 game against Valencia, and will be out for at least two weeks. He was placed immediately on the 7-day disabled list. Infielder José Silva was recalled from AAA Carolina to take his roster spot.
