In one of the more remarkable turnarounds in recent memory, Black Sox starting pitcher Pepe Jaramillo has gone from riches-to-rags-to-riches once again.
Pepe Jaramillo
After a stellar 2041 campaign in which Jaramillo went 15-9 with 3.14 ERA and won the team’s mildly-regarded Pitcher of the Year award, the 33-year-old right hander posted a real stinker of a season in 2042, going 5-10 with a 5.20 ERA.
And this year?
Well, so far this season, Jaramillo has gone 4-1 with a 1.25 ERA and just took home the Frick League’s Pitcher of the Month Award for April.
“Quite a roller coaster, eh?” Jaramillo cracked when asked about his career trajectory in Chicago.
Well, yeah.
So, how does Jaramillo explain it?
“I don’t,” he said with a laugh. “I don’t think I’m doing much of anything different this season than last season. I’m just going out there and trying to do the best I can.”
So far, at least, that seems to be pretty darn good.
