Players on Chicago’s minor league clubs have snapped up awards in the early going of the 2043 season, although only the AAA Carolina Flight are off to anything resembling a decent start.
Award winners include:
- Carolina 1B Emilio Lugo, 26, who won the Granville League’s Player of the Week award on April 13. He rapped out 9 hits in 19 AB for a .474 BA, with 4 home runs and 12 RBIs in 6 games. For the season, Lugo is slashing .324/.419/.811 with 5 homers and 13 RBIs.
- Francisco Rosales, the 24-year-old first baseman of the AA Beloit Blue Sox, won the Donaldo League’s Player of the Week award on April 13 after going 10-25 (.400) with 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and 7 runs scored in 6 games. For the season, he is slashing .326/.415/..696 with 5 homers and 13 RBIs.
- LF Daniel Serrano of the Single A Grand Junction Gold Sox won the Provost League’s Player of the Week award on April 6 after posting a .500 batting average with 11 hits in 22 AB, 3 home runs, 6 RBIs and 7 runs. For the season, Serrano is slashing .306/.382/.633 with 5 homers and 10 RBIs.
Bennett hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th.
Bennett currently is slashing .366/.400/.488 for the season, with no homers, 7 RBIs and 7 runs scored.
Although all of Chicago’s minor league clubs posted winning seasons a year ago, only Carolina currently is above .500 after two weeks of play. The Flight is 8-4 and tied for first in the GL East Coast Division with Brooklyn. Beloit is 6-7 and stands 4th in the DNL Mid-Central Division, 1 game behind Duluth and Sioux City, while Grand Junction also is 6-7, good for 5th place in the PL West Central Division, 2 games behind Topeka, Pahrump and Boulder.
