All good things come to an end.

Sox third baseman Tomás Durán learned that lesson anew on Sept. 9 against the San Fernando Bears, when his hitting streak of 24 games came to an ignominious end when he lined out in a pinch-hitting appearance with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th.

“I hated to send him up there with his streak on the line,” said Sox Manager Julian Negrete. “But it was a tie game, we had the bases loaded and Tomás had been swinging a hot bat … he got good wood on it, but it hung up a little too long and, well, that was that.”

To make matters worse, the Sox went on to lose the game 7-6 in the 10th inning.

“Ah well, what can you do?” asked Durán. “I don’t blame Skip for sending me up there – that’s the kind of situation you want to be in if you’re any kind of ballplayer. I thought I had a hit there, but Bobby Horne snagged it out in right …

“But, man – 24 games in a row? That was a wild ride.”

Durán is slashing .293/.371/.483 on the season.
