Cape Hatteras, N.C. – In the end, the Carolina Flight had too much ground to make up and not enough time to do it.

So, their season came to an end on Sept. 5, two games short of the playoffs. The Flight finished with a 75-67 record, two games behind GL East Coast Division winner Brooklyn, and 2 games behind Wild Card winner Duluth.

The Black Sox lost no time in calling several of the Flight players up to help with their September drive for the BBA playoffs. Among those getting the call:
  • SP Andresa Frederico, a talented but often-injured young pitcher whose ratings by scouts have suffered as a result.
  • RP James Matarazzo, who had an excellent season as Carolina’s closer and is expected to make the big league club next year.
  • 1B Emilio Lugo, a big-league talent who wound up behind Mark Simpson and Aarnaud Budding and got squeezed out of a BBA roster spot as a result.
  • INF José Silva, a talented young second baseman and shortstop who has a shot at the big league roster next season.
  • SS Juan Lozano, a tremendous fielding shortstop who struggles to hit his weight.
Now, of course, the Flight coaches will start planning for the off-season – and some may be wondering about their future with the organization. The next few weeks should be interesting on the Cape.
