Regular Season: Week 23, Sept. 1-7

Hot Take

Let the weeping and lamentation begin: the Black Sox are about to enter their last week of games against the Pacific Division. After that, they must slog a hellish gauntlet through Heartland Division foes who’ve made mincemeat of the boys in black pinstripes from start to finish this season.

Consider:
  • The Sox have four remaining against Louisville, who hold a 7-3 edge in the season series so far.
  • They have four at Madison, which should sound hopeful given that the Sox hold a 6-4 season's advantage. Except there’s one small snag: Madison has gone 22-12 since August 1 and is playing excellent ball.
  • They have three at Yellow Springs, which has an 8-3 record against the Sox. Stupid Yellow Springs - make us look bad!
  • They have three against Nashville at home, which you’d think would be good news since Chicago has a 10-1 series edge. But is it good news? Is it really? Doesn’t the law of averages suggest that Nashville – a decent enough team – will rise up and seize revenge? The law of averages doesn't just suggest that, it insists!
  • And then Chicago ends the season at – yecchhh – Des Moines. Sure, they’ve split the season series at 5-5 so far, but we know how these things go. When the Sox need a win the most, the Kernels (we threw up a little in our mouth there) bat us around like a cheap cat toy and then gack up a hairball in our lap.
So, there you have it. A roadmap of fear, loathing and despair through the balance of September to the end of the season.

It’s enough to make you wanna transfer to the Pacific.
