Hot Take

Aw, man. Frederico is hurt again? This is ruinous. How are the Sox gonna steer clear of the division basement with one of the key young pillars of their starting rotation out until mid … wait. What? He was gonna be what in the rotation? Seventh? What are you talkin’ about? How the hell many starting pitchers do these bastards have? Really smart guy? Well, let’s count ‘em off and see if you know what the hell you’re talkin’ about: Amayas Moelling, Pepe Jaramillo, Luis Gonzáles, David Bates, Manuel Peña, and Juan Nicto …Oh … They’re not really gonna use all those guys are they? Really? Huh. Well, ok. Screw you, Frederico! … So, what are they doing about center field? Rumor has it that Jim Lorenzen’s going back to AAA to work on his batting stroke and finish learning how to play left field. That would leave Keith Sánchez (who had a decent spring: .306/.346/.367) and Jorge González (who had an even better spring: .412/.412/.647) in the mix with Manny Cleide (.250/.308/.438 this spring). Will the Sox carry all three of those guys? Cleide’s a lock, certainly, but Sánchez and González seem like overkill, maybe … It might all come down to what they decide to do with SP/RP Héctor Reyes. I mean, he looks good on paper and all, but he can’t seem to do squat against BBA hitters. The problem is, he’s outta options. So, he either sticks and the Sox see if he can finally put it together (although a spring of 13 IP, 8 ER, 3 HR, a 5.54 ERA, and a 5.66 FIP argues against it), or they waive him. Not an easy choice. Ok, then. Does that about wrap it up? Was this value-added enough for the Kocherschmeltz Group, would you guess? Bright blue “excellent” on the ‘ol color coding chart? Let’s hope so. Well, time for one last mojito and then it’s off to the airport for the flight to Chicago. Catch ya back in the Windy City, boys!
