Sox Scoops 42.022 Briefing for Benny: Right Fielders

To: Benny Vitale, GM
From: Bill McGuffin, Of-Course-I-Don't-Dye-My-Hair, How-Rude, Asst. GM
Date: Jan. 26, 2042

About: Right Fielders

Look, I'm not even sure what you mean about whether the carpet matches the drapes, but it doesn't seem like a proper question from a GM to her assistant. My hair is brown and that's its natural color without "touching up," as you put it.

If it's OK with you, I'll tend to business now. Here's the deal with our right fielders:

Right Fielders

Hao HangMajors70/708/89/98/86/65/66578
R. TorresAAA45/556/67/76/76/66/66657
P. McGrathAAA45/456/67/77/76/65/53447
Rick TorresAA30/404/45/56/76/63/42559
Mario VegaA30/404/47/76/65/64/42478
Surely you don't need me to recite the multitudinous virtues of Hao Hang. He is the Yin and the Yang, the Alpha and the Omega, the Salt and the Peppa of right field in the Sox system. It is His Hao-ness's world and we're simply living in it.

There are a number of late-inning defensive options for RF, including Manny Cleide (an 11-rated right fielder) and super-sub Joe Mills, who's a 10-rated defender there, when that's called for.

Ricardo Torres is an extremely promising prospect for us, and was the Player of the Year in AA Donaldo League last season. Don't be fooled by that defensive rating for him: Torres is a 6-rated left fielder and is in the process of learning to play right for us to increase his versatility. He'll be fine in right - or left, or wherever we put him. He could be a mid-season call-up if we need someone, or he could spend the year in AAA getting a bit more seasoning and come up next year. The scouts, though, say he's ready now, so we'll see.

McGrath, as you can see, is a serviceable hitter, but a menace in the field. To be honest, this is probably his last go-round in the Sox system, and with the folks in front of him, it's not likely he'll make the trip to Chicago.

Rick Torres, in Beloit, had a solid season last year in A-ball, so we're keeping an eye on his development. The coaching staff with the Blue Sox is first rate, so we're eager to see if he can profit from a season under their tutelage.

As you can see, we've got a budding superstar here in the majors, with some quality kids coming up behind him, so RF is not an area of emphasis for us at this time.

If you need me, I'll be combing my luxuriant head of very brown hair ...

I'm shocked Benny and Vinnie aren't related by blood.
