The Carolina Flight have named 1B/DH Clarence Terry as their Hitter of the Year for the 2041 AAA season.

“I’m not going to sugar coat it here – this was not an especially good year for the Flight’s bats, which is one reason we encouraged our previous hitting coach – Young-soo Kim – to retire,” said Flight manager Jeff Matthews. “We’ve since hired Jeremy Alexander, who we’re assured has ‘big talent’ as a hitting coach, and we hope he’ll help turn things around for us in that department.
“That said, Clarence had a solid year for us. We could’ve gone for Emilio Lugo or Jim Lorenzen, but we liked the idea of honoring a guy who hasn’t tried and failed at the big-league level yet. So, Clarence Terry it was.”
Terry seemed both honored and annoyed at news of the team award.
“Gee, thanks, Skip,” Terry said. “Way to damn with faint praise. That’s OK, though. The trophy will look good on my bookcase at home.”
We, of course, didn’t have the heart to break it to him that the Sox team awards are unframed certificates.
