Beloit, WI – The Beloit Blue Sox held steady last week with a 2-2 record that kept them 2 games over .500 for the season.
Just as significant: four Blue Sox players were selected to represent the Donaldo Sub-League in the annual AA All-Star game on June 11. The game was won 6-3 by the Donaldo All Stars, with Sancho Cardona of the Trenton Generals (Atlantic City) getting the victory.
The Beloit players selected were:
• SP José López, 3-0, 1.93 ERA, 37.1 IP, 0.91 WHIP, 8.2 K/9, 1.5 WAR
• SP Felipe Méndez, 7-5, 3.04 ERA, 91.2 IP, 0.99 WHIP, 6.8 K/9, 2.0 WAR
• 1B Francisco Rosales, 302/.378/.590, 222 AB, 15 HR, 151 wRC+, 2.1 WAR
• LF Ricardo Torres, .289/.351/.562, 242 AB, 16 HR, 2 SB, 132 wRC+, 1.8 WAR
Three of the four Blue Sox appeared in the game, with Torres starting in right field and going 1-3 with a single. Rosales pinch hit in the bottom of the 8th, lining a deep fly to center for the third out.
Méndez pitched a scoreless 2nd inning, allowing no hits and no walks while striking out 1 batter. López did not appear in the game.
SS Quinn Richardson of the New Bern Bears (Charlotte) won Player of the Game honors, going 2-3 with a 2-run homer in the 1st and a 3-run homer in the 3rd to spark the offense. "I go out there and do my best every game, All-Star game or not," he said.
