Grand Junction, Colo. – The Grand Junction Gold Sox plunged into a deep 2-4 ravine in Week 10 of their Single A schedule, but were still clinging to first place in the PL West Central Division by a game.
Last week started off with the Sox dropping the final game of their home series against the Council Bluffs Express (Mexico City), and then losing 2 of 3 on the road against the Lancaster Cactus (Valencia). Grand Junction ended the week by splitting a pair of road games against the Danville Dodos (Charlotte).
The closest thing to a highlight for the week was an 11-6 victory on June 7 against the Dodos.
DH Paul Kemp had a nice day, going 2-5 with a 2-run homer in the 3rd inning, while RF Juan Benítez enjoyed a monster 4-6 day, with a double and a homer.
SP Orlando Pérez struggled, allowing 11 hits and 5 runs in 6.1 innings, but it didn’t matter: the Gold Sox bats were fully awake and had scored 6 runs by the 4th inning.
