Hot Take: And so begins the unraveling … Analysts have thought all season that the Black Sox have been punching above their weight class, and their performance in this series illustrates the truth of that assertion. Interestingly, the Achilles heel has been the bullpen, which the Sox front office had figured to be an area of strength. But the ongoing struggles of RP Frits Brinson and long reliever/spot starter François Mangin have helped to undermine that belief. The Sox are thinking about sending Brinson down to AAA Carolina to see if he can work through his issues and regain some semblance of effectiveness. In the good news, Amayas Moelling returned to the starting rotation from his week in the bullpen with an effective (although losing) effort in the last game of the series. He went 8.0 innings and allowed 6 hits, 3 runs and no walks while striking out 3. Management hopes this will help him put his struggles behind him. Not that it will matter much … the Sox, at heart, are a .500 to slightly below .500 team, and they’re simply finding their true level.
