Cape Hatteras, NC – The Carolina Flight returned to the winning side of the ledger as they put up a 4-3 record in Week 7 play.
The Flight salvaged the last game of their road series against Kalamazoo; dropped 2 of 3 at home against the Commerce Yard Goats (Long Beach); then bounced back to claim 2 of 3 at the St. Paul Riverhawks (Calgary).
Perhaps the highlight of the week came at the very beginning, when Carolina pulled out a tense 2-1 road win against the Kalamazoo Kangaroos (Seattle).
When Catcher Jesse MacKeachan drove home LF Roberto García from first with a double, it seemed like a nice little insurance run.
By the bottom of the inning, though, it loomed large when a double and two singles chased SP Manuel Durán, scored a run. RP António Salcido then hit a batter to load the bases for Kalamazoo Catcher Juan Aguilar, and suddenly the situation looked dire.
Salcido prolonged the drama by going to a full count on Aguilar, before inducing him to swing at an inside fastball and hit a little nubber in front of the plate that catcher https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... MacKeachan pounced on and fired to first to retire the side.
Closer David Bates then locked things down in the 9th to preserve the win.
The week was also notable because it marked the AAA debut of OF prospect Hao Hang, who was promoted from AA Beloit at the beginning of the week. Hang put together a solid-enough debut week, slashing .267/.389/.500 with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs.
He also “bumped” a level in his outfield defense, as the BBA Scouting Consortium now rates him a 3 in right field. He’s a 6 in left, but is trying to learn right field because the Black Sox would like to start him opposite Fernando Reyes in left.
Ideally, Sox coaches would like to see him hit at least “5” before promoting him to the big club.
