W: Á. Díaz (2-0) L: M. Polar (0-1) .
HR – None

05/02/41: Portland Lumberjacks @ Chicago Black Sox - Loss, 6-2.
Lumberjacks Win at Chicago, 6-2
W: B. de Meza (1-0) L: A. Moelling (2-2) .
HR - POR: J. Mick (10), N. Schipper 2 (2), B. Howeth-Arneson, Jr. (2) CHI: A. Budding (3)

Game 1 Notables: We feel faintly nauseous … what could be the problem? Not anything we ate, certainly … Oh wait. We know – Portland’s in town! That’s enough to make anyone sick … This one went into extra innings and didn’t end until the bottom of the 12th, when RF Manny Cleide hit an RBI-single for the walk-off win … SP Manuel Peña kept the Lumberjacks pretty much under wraps as he threw 6.1 innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 run and 1 walk while striking out 4. His PQS score: 4 … Player of the Game: Manuel Peña … Cliché of the Game: “Exhilarating win!” said Cleide, a man of few hits and even fewer words …

Game 2 Notables: Ick. A split with Portland – speaking of nauseating. Sox batters had trouble getting anything going against Lumberjacks SP Bengt de Meza, who went 7.0 innings and allowed 4 hits, 2 runs and 1 walk while striking out 2. PQS score: 2 … DH Aarnoud Budding provided what little offensive spark the Sox could muster, going 1-4 with a 2-run homer in the 3rd innings … Player of the Game: Nikita Schipper, Portland SS, who was 2-4 with 2 home runs, 2 runs scored, and 3 RBIs … Cliché of the Game: "If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Portland manager José Aicón. Wow. Deep.

In Sum: A split with Portland? Auuuggghhhh! The Gods of Baseball are not amused by Chicago’s winning record, clearly. So they will heap indignity upon indignity upon the Sox until the return to the under-.500 subterranean pit from which they climbed. Well, something to look forward to, anyway …
