Game 1 Notables: SP François Mangin tossed 6.0 innings of 2-hit shutout ball to pace the Sox. He walked none and struck out 7 en route to a PQS score of 4 … LF Fernando Reyes had the offensive highlight with a 3-run homer in the 5th inning … Player of the Game: François Mangin … Cliché of the Game: “It was a tough night at the plate,” said Hawaii Manager Kelly Finley.

Game 2 Notables: Hawaii SP Stephen Taub held Sox bats in check as he threw 7.1 innings, allowing 2 runs, 5 hits and 0 walks while striking out 6. He didn’t get the win, but he did post a PQS score of 5 … On the Chicago side, SP Manuel Peña went 5.1 innings, allowing 6 hits, 1 run and 1 walk, also taking a no-decision. His PQS score: 2 … Who got the L? A familiar name, by now: Pavel Bure, Jr., who surrendered 4 hits and 2 runs in 2.2 IP … Player of the Game: Stephen Taub … Cliché of the Game: “Honestly, I’m not frustrated,” said Chicago Manager Bret Richards dishonestly. “The effort was great.” The result? Ehhhh … not so much.

Game 3 Notables: The Sox bats came awake after slumbering away in Game 2 … 1B Emilio Lugo had a 2-run homer, while Catcher Hotha Popo chipped in a solo shot to help pace the offense …SP Alejandro Soto had 5.0 IP, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs as he picked up his 6th win of the season. PQS score: 2 … Ángel Díaz threw 4.0 innings of shutout ball in relief to pick up the save. Díaz, a Rule 5 draft pickup from Jacksonville last year, has put together a solid season in the bullpen: 93.2 IP, 7-3-2 record; 2.68 ERA … Player of the Game: Emilio Lugo … Cliché of the Game: “Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse,” Lugo said. Hmm. That might explain all the backaches – cut that out, morons.

Game 4 Notables: Don’t hold your breath, but the Sox climbed out of their most recent hole and scaled the .500 summit … Shhh. Don’t tell the baseball gods, though … SP Amayas Moelling made this latest mini-miracle possible, as he put together an excellent game: 8.0 IP, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, and 7 Ks. PQS score: 5 … DH Tommy Cochran put the Sox on top to stay in the 3rd inning with an RBI double … Player of the Game: Amayas Moelling … Cliché of the Game: “We’ll savor this win, then get ready for the next game,” said Cochran. You know? It’s good to have a plan …

In Sum: It’s so beautiful up here at .500. We get a little weepy just looking around … please, baseball gods, let us enjoy it awhile. Pay no attention to Vinnie Vitale and his fruit baskets. Just let us recline by the River .500 awhile. Is that so much to ask?
