Game 1 Notables: Three Louisville pitchers combined to toss a 2-hit shutout against the Sox: SP Mei-shan Ngui, 4.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 W, 4 Ks; RP Luis Flores, 4.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 W, 3 Ks; RP Andresa Pires, 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 W, 0 K … Not your usual 2-hitter, but still damn effective … DH Tommy Cochran and Catcher Diesel Dave were the only Sox batters to reach base, both on singles … Player of the Game: José Valera, Louisville LF who went 2-4 with a 2-run homer in the 5th … Cliché of the Game: “Coulda, shoulda, woulda,” said Chicago manager Bret Richards. “We had our chances and didn’t cash in.” Hmm. Which chances were those? The single in the 6th, or the single in the 8th?

Game 2 Notables: Sleepy as the Chicago offense was in Game 1, it was wide awake here … RF Manny Cleide was 2-4 with 2 doubles, 2 walks, 3 runs and 3 RBIs; 3B Luis González went 3-5 with 2 runs; and LF Fernando Reyes went 2-5 with a bases-clearing double in the 8th … and those are just a few of the high points. Where were you guys yesterday? … SP François Mangin went 6.0 innings, allowing 6 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk and 4 Ks in picking up the win. PQS score: 1 … Player of the Game: Manny Cleide … Cliché of the Game: “Chalk one up for the good guys,” said Fernando Reyes. “I’m sure our fans enjoyed that win.”

Game 3 Notables: Sluggers SP Stan Palácios kept the Sox nicely in check through this one, throwing 8.0 innings and allowing 5 hits, 1 run, and 1 walk while striking out 10. PQS score: 5 … Chicago SP Alejandro Soto didn’t do too badly himself, going 7.0 innings while allowing 4 hits, 1 run, and 0 walks while striking out 5. PQS score: 5 … Player of the Game: Stan Palácios … Cliché of the Game: “Winning the game is always the first objective,” said Palácios. Pretty sure he got that from Sun Tzu.

Game 4 Notables: The Sox pushed across 4 runs late against Louisville starter Augusto Sánchez to take this one … Sox SP Manuel Peña did enough to keep Chicago in the game, going 5.1 innings while allowing 1 H, 1 R, and 2 Ws while striking out 6. PQS score: 3 … RF Manny Cleide, who had an RBI double in the 8th, and CF Jim Lorenzen, who hit his 16th homer of the year in the 7th, helped pace the offense … Player of the Game: Manuel Peña … Cliché of the Game: “We came out on the wrong end of this one,” said Louisville manager Waldemar Buddenberg. A man with a firm grasp of the obvious, is Buddenberg. He's also known for such statements as, “Louisville is in Kentucky” and “My last name starts with B.”

In Sum: A split against Louisville isn’t so bad. In fact, it mirrors the season record between the two teams, which ends up at 7-7 – and that, my friends, must really piss off the Sluggers. Sorry about that, boys. At least you play in one of the nicest cities in the country … oh. Wait. Well … sorry about that, boys.
