Game 1 Notables: The Sox had no business winning this game (a statement you can legitimately make about virtually any game, of course, but especially this one). They gave up the lead in the bottom of the 9th, thanks to Pavel Bure, Jr. loading the bases, then yielding to Juan Alfonso, who promptly gave up a 2-run single … then, in the 11th, Manager Bret Richards made the, um, unusual decision to send light-hitting shortstop Santiago Morales in to pinch hit for Keith Sánchez, who already had 2 triples on the day (tying a team record). All Morales did was hit his 6th homer of the year to give Chicago the lead and, ultimately, the win. When your number’s up, your number’s up … Player of the Game: LF Tim Torres, who went 2-6 with a homer, 2 runs, and 4 RBIs … Cliché of the Game: “Our guys just had that look of determination,” said Bret Richards.
