Game 1 Notables: And down the rabbit hole of despair we go … SP Amayas Moelling followed up his no-hitter with this gem … and it wasn’t enough. Moelling threw 6.0 innings, allowed 2 hits, 1 run, struck out 4 and walked 2 and lost. PQS score: 2 … The Sox were limited to just 3 hits and could never get anything going … Player of the Game: Lee McHone, Valencia SP, who went 7.2 innings, allowing 3 hits, 0 runs, and 2 walks while striking out 6. PQS score: 5 … Cliché of the Game: McHone called the win the result of “everyone being in sync.”

Game 2 Notables: Closer Pavel Bure, Jr. served up a home run ball in the bottom of the 9th to take the loss and waste a decent start from Alejandro Soto, who went 5.0 innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 runs and 1 walk while striking out 3. PQS score: 2 … Not much to write home about on the offensive end … Player of the Game: Niall Hanlon, Valencia SP, who went 7.1 innings. He allowed 4 hits, 2 runs and 0 walks while striking out 6. PQS score: 5 … Cliché of the Game: “I still think this team has room for improvement,” Hanlon said after the game. We bet ol’ Niall is a popular guy in the clubhouse.

Game 3 Notables: Austin Stinson’s short, um, stint as a desperation 5th starter option came to an end here, as he allowed 7 hits and 6 runs in 1.2 IP. PQS score: 0 … DH Tommy Cochran had a 2-run homer, and 1B Emilio Lugo went 2-4 with a run scored to highlight the offense … Player of the Game: Aaron Haney, Valencia CF, who went 3-4 with a homer, double and walk while scoring 2 runs and knocking in 1 … Cliché of the Game: “We were able to get some things going offensively,” Haney said.

Game 4 Notables: Hey, here’s a new story line: closer Pavel Bure, Jr. served up a couple of homers, let 3 runs score, and lost the game. Oh, wait. Maybe you have heard this one before … SP Juan Nicto had a bad start, which didn’t help matters much: 5.1 IP, 6 hits, 3 runs, 3 Ks, 2 walks. PQS score: 1 … The lion’s share of the offense came on a 3-run homer by 1B Tommy Cochran in the 7th … Player of the Game: Frank Mahaffey, Valencia DH, who had a 3-run homer in the 6th … Cliché of the Game: “I like our mindset right now,” said Valencia Manager Anthony Light.

In Sum: Yuck.

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.

I'm starting to think Bure is a double agent - I think, somehow, Kate got to him. Otherwise, how does a pitcher with his reasonably decent skill ratings f@#k up so much? He won't negotiate an extension, thank God, so at the end of the season he can go gack up someone else's bullpen ...
