Game 1 Notables: Ernie Kinney must die. He’s 2-9 on the season – and both freakin’ wins are over the Sox: a 3-0 shutout on July 29, and this travesty. He went 8.0 innings, allowing 7 hits, 1 run, no walks and 5 Ks. PQS score: 5. Shoot me. Or better yet, let’s see if Vinnie can convince Kate to flip sides and shoot Kinney for us … anyway, SP Juan Nicto was victimized in this one. He went 6.0 innings, allowing 3 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), while walking 2 and striking out 3. PQS score: 2 … DH Tommy Cochran hit his 23rd homer of the season in the 9th … LF Tim Torres got tossed in the 7th for arguing a strike call … Player of the Game: Ernie “Freakin’” Kinney … Cliché of the Game: “We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches,” said Portland manager Tarafah bin Bahir. We have a content analysis team poring over that quote, and when they figure out what the hell it means, we’ll get back to you.

Game 2 Notables: If there’s any solace to be gleaned from splitting (gag) a series with Portland (double gag), it’s that the Sox did it on the back of SP Manuel Peña, who hasn’t exactly been Steve Nebraska out there this year … Peña went 5.1 innings, allowing 3 hits, 0 runs and 1 walk while striking out 8. PQS score: 4 … RP Brian Smith chipped in 3.2 innings of scoreless relief to notch a save … Keith Sánchez, the poor man’s Jim Lorenzen, was the offensive star, going 2-4 with a double, a 2-run homer, a walk, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs … Player of the Game: Manuel Peña … Cliché’ of the Game: Peña told reporters he was “satisfied” with the win.

In Sum: A split with Portland. We just threw up a little our mouths. Hard to take – especially the notion that Ernie “Death’s Too Good For Him” Kinney has turned into a Sox killer. Lord, give us strength …

Portland is going to have a losing record against every team in the Frick this season except for two teams this season...... Chicago and Madison!! Both of whom we finished .500 against.

*note, we still have 4 games left against Louisville who we are currently 2-2 against this season and have an outside chance at beating someone within the division but unlikely.
