Game 1 Notables: If you consider a no-hitter notable, well, yeah, we had one of those. There was ample separate coverage of Amayas Moelling’s accomplishment elsewhere, but suffice it to say … wow. He had 9 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 1 HP, and 7 Ks. PQS: 5 … There was plenty of offense, too, as the Sox pushed 10 runs across the plate. LF Tim Torres went 3-3 with 2 walks, 1 run and 3 RBIs; SS Santiago Morales went 3-3 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs; and RF Manny Cleide went 2-5 with a homer, 3 runs and an RBI … Player of the Game: Amayas Moelling … Cliché of the Game: “He mixed his pitches well and hit his spots, plus he got a little help from above,” said Chicago Manager Bret Richards. “Amayas really took it to another level today.”

Game 2 Notables: Recent free agent acquisition Austin Stinson made his first start for the Sox, in the team’s most recent attempt to plug the injury-caused hole in its starting rotation. Stinson … survived. He went 3.2 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 runs and 1 walk while striking out 1. Not good, certainly, but we’ve actually seen worse. PQS: 1 … LF Tim Torres, perhaps sensing the team is leaning against extending an arbitration offer, had another strong game: 2-3 with a triple, 2 walks, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs … Player of the Game: Tim Torres … Cliché of the Game: “We’ll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow,” said Torres. Precisely what the Sox will be getting after is an open question …

Game 3 Notables: The Sox swept (!?!) the 3-game series with Omaha behind some timely hitting from 2B Rocky Wattson and 1B Emilio Lugo and some decent bullpen work by Juan Alfonso and Pavel Bure, Jr. … Wattson hit a 2-run homer in the 1st inning, and Lugo hit a solo shot in the 6th to give Chicago a lead it would not relinquish … Alfonzo pitched 3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win, and Bure shut things down in the 9th to nab his 21st save … Player of the Game: Emilio Lugo … Cliché of the Game: “If the effort is there, the wins will come,” Lugo said. We believe that line was first used by Kierkegaard or, perhaps, Casey Stengel.

In Sum: A series sweep? A no-hitter? A positive run differential? The Sox are toying with our emotions again as visions of clawing back to .500 once again dance in our heads. But don’t get sucked in. Down that path lies madness …
