07/24/40: Valencia Stars @ Chicago Black Sox - Win, 1-2.
Juan Nicto Goes Distance in Win
W: J. Nicto (12-4) L: J. Martínez (7-5) .
HR - CHI: T. Cochran (18), V. Bedolla (1)

07/25/40: Valencia Stars @ Chicago Black Sox - Loss, 3-2.
Stars Turn Back Chicago, 3-2
W: L. McHone (8-3) L: F. Brinson (4-5) S: J. García (31).
HR - VAL: A. Adjo (4)

Game 1 Notables: SP Juan Nicto threw one of his best games of the season, going the distance and allowing just 3 hits, 1 run and 1 walk while striking out 4. PQS score: 4 … Versatile call-up Keith Sánchez played CF and 1B while going 2-4 in the leadoff spot, while DH Tommy Cochran and backup 3B Victor Bedolla each chipped in homers … Player of the Game: Juan Nicto … Cliché of the Game: “The want-to is there for our guys,” said Valencia Manager Anthony Light. “We’ll get this thing turned around.”

Game 2 Notables: Another make-do start to cover for Chicago’s missing 5th SP failed rather miserably. This time, the Sox opened with All-Star reliever Frits Brinson, who gave up 3 runs on 3 hits in 4.0 innings … LF Fernando Reyes and CF Keith Sánchez sparked the offense with a double and triple, respectively. Still, not enough to climb out of that 3-run hole at the start of the game … Player of the Game: Valencia SP Lee McHone, who went 8.0 innings and allowed 5 hits, 2 runs and 5 walks while striking out 4. PQS score: 3 … Cliché of the Game: “I was a little disappointed,” said Chicago Manager Bret Richards. “We could’ve and should’ve scored more runs.” Well, duh.

In Sum: Another split, another kiss yer sister series. Better than the total crash and burn of the 1-3 stand in California, but still not overly satisfying. The club is 10-12 so far in July. It would be nice to see them close out the homestand with a strong showing against those mopes from Portland …

If one has a really hot sister, do they still mumble at a tie? Or would like sweeping a double-header be considered "kissing yer sister"?
