Game 1 Notables: SP François Mangin threw fairly well, but it was nowhere near enough to fend off Yellow Springs in the series opener. Mangin went 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits with 6 Ks and 4 walks. PQS score: 2 … 3B Luis González went 3-5 with two doubles and RF Manny Cleide went 3-4 with a double and 2 singles, but neither scored or drove in a run as Chicago’s offense sputtered … Player of the Game: François Mangin … Cliché of the Game: “It was just a matter of executing,” said Yellow Springs Manager Bill Inkster.

Game 2 Notables: Carlos Valle of the Yellow Springs Nine shut down the Sox en route to his 10th win of the season … Chicago could only manage three singles off Valle, and one off reliever Tiernan O’Macken … SP Alejandro Soto, meanwhile, pitched a creditable game, going 7.1 innings and allowing 5 hits and 3 runs as he notched a PQS score of 2 … Player of the Game: Carlos Valle … Cliché of the Game: “We’ve got guys willing to do what it takes to win,” Valle said.

Game 3 Notables: The Sox salvaged the last game of the series behind a respectable start from Juan Nicto and some timely hitting by 2B Rocky Wattson … Nicto went 6.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, with 4 Ks and 3 walks. PQS score: 2 … Wattson went 2-3 with a 2-run homer, 1 run scored and 3 RBIs … Player of the Game: Rocky Wattson … Cliché of the Game: “Nice to see our side come away with the win,” said Wattson.

In Sum: It was good to put Yellow Springs behind us. The Sox can’t seem to do much of anything against them … except lose. That pitching staff just pretty much overwhelms the fair-to-middling bats Chicago can put up against it.
