Game 1 Notables: SP Juan Nicto was at his commanding best in this game, allowing 1 run, just 3 hits, and a walk while striking out 5. PQS Score: 4 … LF Fernando Reyes and DH Tommy Cochran both homered, while 3B Luis González went 2-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored … Player of the Game: Juan Nicto … Cliché of the Game: “We made a couple of mistakes and it cost us,” said Omaha Manager Quentin Richardson.

Game 2 Notables: The Sox got off to a fast start, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning – but those were the last runs they would score, as Omaha came back to break Chicago’s 3-game winning streak … SP Manuel Peña went the whole way, throwing 8.0 innings while allowed 4 runs on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1. PQS Score: 2 … Player of the Game: Steven Clulow, Omaha SP, who went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs, 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6. PQS score: 4 … Cliché of the Game: “I’m just happy to help the team win,” said Clulow.

Game 3 Notables: Chicago dropped the rubber game of the series and wasted a fine start by François Mangin, who pitched 8.0 innings, allowed 3 runs on 4 hits with 5 Ks and 1 walk. PQS score: 4 … Player of the Game: Omaha SP Elliott Buckland, who threw 8.0 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits with 5 Ks and 2 BBs. PQS score: 4 … Cliché of the Game: “We’ll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow,” said Omaha 1B Rafael González, who knocked in a run with his 8th double of the season.

In Sum: The Sox dropped the series to a division rival, which wasn’t ideal, but at least it was competitive. The starting rotation pitched well enough to keep the team in every game, but the lineup couldn’t generate enough runs to win. Moving Cochran to full-time DH may remedy that, but where will that leave Emilio Lugo, a fine hitter in his own right? Some tough decisions ahead …
