He’s a Brazilian right-hander pitching for a high school team in Moscow – and now he’s the first round draft pick of the Chicago Black Sox.
Romeu Tameiro
“We think Romeu shows great promise and we will make a concerted effort to sign him to a contract as soon as possible,” said Asst. GM Bill McGuffin. “I know some teams are saying they won’t even try to sign their first-rounders, but don’t count us among them.”
Scouts say Tameiro’s overall potential is around 55, with stuff and movement that grade out at 6 and control at 5.
The OSA scouting report characterizes his cutter as “lively” and should end up as his best pitch.
Although OSA scouts caution that Tameiro may have control issues, the report concludes that “at his peak, Tameiro can occupy a spot in the middle of a rotation.”
“If that happens, then we’ll be absolutely delighted,” McGuffin said. “We look forward to the day when we can watch Romeu take the mound at Black Sox Park.”
Assuming the Sox reach a contract agreement with their first choice, Tameiro would play this season for the team's Rookie League affiliate, the Monclova Aqua Sox.
