His epic hitting streak, which began on April 12, lasted 20 games, and then ended on May 6 in an 0-4 outing against Vancouver.
This latest streak equaled his previous career best, a 20-game hitting tear last season that ended on June 15, 2039, in Wichita.
“Ah well,” González said. “It was fun while it lasted. At least now I can take shower wherever I like.”
During this season's hitting streak, the superstitious Gonzalez would only wash under the fourth showerhead in the shower room, whether at home or on the road.
So, what happened on May 6?
“Dunno,” Gonzalez said. “The luck of the showerhead wore off.”
As of May 12, Gonzalez was slashing .279/.325/.400 on the season.
