That brought up shortstop Santiago Morales, who took one called strike before smashing a letter-high fastball 403 feet into the left field stands for a solo homer.
By then, Kernels Manager Troy Coffman had seen enough, and brought in Rafael Maldonado to face Catcher Diesel Dave.
Dave, who had hit a 2-run bomb just the inning before, took a fastball low and then walloped a hanging curve ball 426 feet to right center for Chicago’s third consecutive homer.
Maldonado yielded one more run before getting out of the inning. In all, the Sox scored 6 runs in the top of the 8th and went on to win 9-4 and break a 4-game losing streak.
