Phantoms Phanatics Season Ending Week in Review

The soon-to-be-defunct Huntsville Phantoms went 2-1 in their final series of 2039, and their final series in Alabama …

What – no interruption?

We’re trying to be respectful.

Respectful? That’s a switch.

Mama always told us we need to be respectful of the dearly departed.

That’s not a threat is it?

You really are an idiot. You sure you’re not a Yankee? It’s not always about you.

You’re talking about the Phantoms, then.

Duh.

Ah. Well, you’re right there. Dead team walking - all the way to Chicago.

Good riddance.

They’re not the only thing going away for good, you know.

What else?

Well, this is also the final edition ever of Phantoms Phanatics Week in Review.

Well, hell. Every cloud really does have a silver lining!

Nice. OK, time for our final thoughts.

Roll Tide?

Roll Tide!

News and Notes

The final out ever recorded at the Opera House, the home of the nearly-former Huntsville Phantoms, was a 5-4 fielder’s choice grounded into by New Orleans RF Xavier Randel during the Phantoms' Sept. 29, 7-4 victory over the Crawdads. Huntsville 2B Rocky Wattson fielded the throw from 3B Luis González and stepped on the bag to retire DH Dean Ludlum … Ludlum recorded the last hit at the Opera House, a ground ball single up the middle off reliever Pavel Bure, Jr. … The final Opera House win went to RP Juan Alfonso, while the final loss went to New Orleans RP Tony Ramirez … And, finally, the last HR recorded at the soon-to-be-shuttered ballpark was a 418-foot blast to left center hit by New Orleans 3B Mario Barrera in the sixth inning off SP Luis Gonzáles.
