Huntsville Phantoms at Montreal Blazers
August 29, 2038

Huntsville rode a good starting effort from Alejandro Soto and some timely hitting from second baseman Leyli Yelanian to a 5-2 win over Montreal Sunday evening at Le Palais.

Soto went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and no walks to pick up his eighth win against 11 losses.

Yelanian, meanwhile, helped the Phantoms jump on top early by mashing a Vicente López knuckle curve over the right field fence for a two-run homer in the top of the 3rd inning. The blow was Yelanian’s 16th home run of the season.

Montreal overcame a 2-0 deficit Monday evening to nip Huntsville 3-2 in the second contest of a three-game set.

Starter Jesús López scattered 5 hits and allowed just 2 runs in his 6 innings of work, striking out 6 and walking no one. The Blazers bullpen locked down the win, allowing just 1 hit over the final three innings, with closer Chris Adkins notching his 32nd save.

Catcher Dave Robertson provided the decisive blow in the 7th inning, blasting a solo home run 408 feet to left center.

Huntsville Phantoms at Montreal Blazers
August 31, 2038

The Blazers took advantage of a big game at the plate by DH Jody Crawford to down the Huntsville Phantoms 4-2 Tuesday evening at Le Palais.

Crawford went 2-3 with 3 RBIs, including a clutch 2-run double to right off Phantoms starter Juan Nicto to give Montreal the lead in the bottom of the 4th inning.

Ultimately, though, the win proved costly to the Blazers as starter Matt Mills suffered a partially torn labrum in the top of the 4th. Team doctors said he’ll miss 3 to 4 months recovering from the injury.

Montreal exploded for 10 runs against Huntsville pitching on Wednesday to coast to an easy victory, the Blazers’ third in a row.

Center fielder Roberto López keyed the offense with a 2-4 night at the plate, including a home run and a triple while knocking in 2 runs and scoring 3. Left fielder Juan Santana also had a big night, going 3-5 with 2 RBIs and a run scored.

Huntsville starter Manuel Peña was victimized for 7 earned runs on 8 hits and 3 walks as he suffered his 9th loss of the season.
