Huntsville Phantoms at Hawaii Tropics
August 26, 2038

Huntsville broke a 5-game losing streak Thursday, shutting down the Hawaii Tropics 2-0 behind a strong outing from starter Juan Nicto.

Nicto went 6.2 innings, allowing no runs and three hits while striking out 7 and walking 3 to take his record to 12-8 on the season.

Huntsville struck early when center fielder Tim Torres singled in the first, stole second and then moved to third on a throwing error by Hawaii catcher Dan Calhoun. Torres trotted home moments later when left fielder Fernando Reyes doubled into deep right center.

They completed their scoring in the 5th when DH David Hall doubled home right fielder Adrian Young.

The Hawaii Tropics came from behind in a big way Friday evening, scoring six runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to bury the Phantoms 10-5.

Hawaii went into the 6th trailing 4-2, but strung together 6 hits, including a double by right fielder Robert Gowron, a 3-run homer by DH Gerbrand de Best, and a solo homer by first baseman Manuel Aguilar, Jr. to take the lead for good.

The Hawaii Tropics jumped on top early and never let up as they took the deciding game of their three-game set with the Huntsville Phantoms 8-4 on Saturday.

Hawaii’s offense was keyed by DH Robert Gowron, who went 2-5 with a solo homer and 2 RBIs, and catcher Dan Buchanan, who went 2-3 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Starter Robert Hobbs picked up his 5th win of the year, pitching 6 innings while allowing 2 earned runs and four hits.
