Windy City Chronicle 1999.1

Post by ryankcollins » Thu Jan 20, 2011 4:06 pm

Chicago, IL (AP) Just moments after the Chicago Black Sox falling the Des Moines Kernels in the Landis Memorial Series, the Black Sox parted ways with their General Manager and hired on former Louisville Sluggers GM, Ryan Collins. This move was a shock to many since Collins only served as General Manager of the Sluggers for the 1998 season and ending the season with a 74-88 record. Ryan Collins, originally from Chicago and a big fan of the Black Sox organization considered this a dream come true.

"There was no hesitation in my decision. The Louisville organization was an absolute class-act, and the fans were great. The season did not go as planned, obviously, but I planned on putting forth my best effort for the Sluggers to get them back to a highly competitive team. But, I received word that the Chicago Black Sox had an opening and I had to throw my number into the hat and hope it would be get drawn. I grew up in Chicago and have always pulled for the Black Sox to have success. Right now, it is a dream come true to be able to assist int hat success and cross the threshold of hoping to participating. I'm excited about this off-season and I am excited to be home."

With the arbitration hearings coming soon and the off-season underway, we will see how GM Ryan Collins assumes his new position with the Chicago Black Sox and see if he can carry their continuing success on his shoulders. One thing is for sure: he will not last long in the Windy City if he brings Louisville's losing ways with him. The Windy City is now well-known for the old saying, "Here today...Gone tomorrow!"
