Windy City Ramblings - 1996.4 - Killin' Time

Post by tylertoo » Tue Jul 20, 2010 10:34 am

Black Sox may be hanging on to first in the JL Midwest, but one single player is killing us. Evander 'Eephus' Kilkenny.

Kilkenny, you see, is the second highest player on the Sox payroll and he's not earning one tenth of this $15M salary. $15.1M actually, but who's counting. And for all that cash, what we have so far in 1996 is a 1-6 record, with a 8.52 ERA and 2.13 WHIP. He's the reason the Sox are at the salary cap, he's the reason we couldn't sign any free agents, he's the reason we lost an SP and IF to get under the cap. He's killin' us.

My assistant GM sent me this rundown of his last ten starts:

I'm gonna kill him. I'm gonna kill Kilkenny.

If I kill him, do I still have to pay his contract? I'm gonna have my accountant look at that. For now, he's gonna sit in the bullpen where he can count his friggin' 15 million dollars.

Man, and if he doesn't retire or if you don't find a salary dump, you're stuck with him next season too
