Wednesday, May 5th, 2055 - Antonio Velasco is officially out as pitching coach for the Chicago Black Sox after just 30 games. This comes a little over 5 years after Velasco was fired as manager of Chicago.
Prior to 2055, Velasco came back to Chicago as pitching coach. It was a move many thought was Velasco's way to eventually work his way back as manager, but early in Spring Training it appeared the 2nd marriage was not going to last. According to sources within the organization, Velasco struggled with being a "pitching coach" and battled with manager Alberto Sanchez over control. This struggle was a poorly hidden secret among media members as Sanchez sent Velasco home after Dvimurdhan Sameer suffered his second injury in Spring Training.
As the season started, the pitching staff performed well below expectations and ranked worst in the league in many categories. When discussing changes to improve the staff, Sanchez & Velasco again had an argument, which led to Velasco being fired. It appears any door for a reunion is permanently shut.
Ipe Slagboom was hired as Velasco's replacement. Slagboom, relatively unknown, is coming to Chicago after 3 seasons in Albuquerque, the AAA affiliate for Rocky Mountain. In his 3 seasons in Albuquerque, Slagboom's team improved each season. Last year, Albuquerque had a team ERA of 3.87.
