GM Dunn Fired in Surprise Shake-Up
and Fans Rejoice!

Owner: "Now's the time."

Chicago, November 14, 2051 - Citing differing views on the future of the club, Black Sox owner Vinnie Vitale today surprised everyone by firing GM Mike Dunn.

Sources indicate that Vitale summoned Dunn for a late-night meeting and said bluntly that giving him another season, after the club's 73-89 finish, would not be appropriate:

And with that, Dunn was summarily ousted, and according to our sources he was not even given time to clean out his office.

Thus, Dunn leaves the Black Sox with the strangest record. His first stint as GM brought two Landis Cup championships, in 1995 and '96. But when he returned in 2049, the magic was gone. The team finished in 6th place in the Heartland in '49, 5th in '50, and then fell to 7th place this past season. He also managed some moves described by pundits as 'head-scratching,' such as the massive contract to free agent bust Fernando Castillo (though that is thought to have been actually Vitale's doing).

"Clearly we are not seeing improvement," Vitale reportedly told Dunn. "Now's the time for a change."

Fans, unhappy with Dunn's playoff-free recent tenure, took to the streets of downtown Chicago in celebration:

Vitale is said to be in contact with several GMs in the Global Baseball Consortium about filling the vacant front office post.

Dunn, for his part, did not respond to our calls and emails. He did respond to our text message with a strange meme:

I would “like” this post except for the fact that it means Mike is leaving, at least for a while. Hurry back!
