It's that time of the year when those of us in the media comb through the stats and bestow upon you fans our selections for the players of the year. Our esteemed panel has selected the hitter and pitcher of the year for the entire Huntsville organization. Enjoy!
Huntsville:
SP Heinrich Peithner- 'Cajun' finally arrived in Huntsville. A biceps strained cost him about a months worth of starts but Peinthner still led the pitching staff with 8 wins and a 3.28 era. He showed the flashes of greatness that has led people within the organization to believe he can and will be the ace of the staff for years to come.
SS Gerardo Guzmán- Once again 'The Carp' showed why he is considered the franchise player for the Phantoms. He slashed a nice .293/.364/.394 along with 96 stolen bases (good for 2nd in the Johnson League). The Phantoms' offense definitely goes as Guzmán goes. All signs point to Guzmán challenging for an All Star spot next year.
Carolina (AAA):
SP Manny López
C Tomás Lugo
Beloit (AA):
CL Juan Canó
1B Pete McKoy
Boulder (A):
SP Juan Valenzuela
CF Mark Robinson
San Pedro De Macoris (S A):
SP José Reyna
2B Esteban Fernández
Monclova (R):
SP Prospero Alvo
CF Roberto González
While the win loss records may not be all that great, the above performances along with several others in the minor league system point to a bright future in Huntsville. I hope you enjoyed our list of the organizational players of the year and keep an eye out for further reports this offseason as we look to spotlight the future of the Phantoms franchise.
