Bobby Beat 2006 v4: May Players of the Month

Post by jiminyhopkins » Thu Aug 09, 2012 8:23 pm

Washington, DC--

It happens every year. After a decent April, the Bobwhites fall on their face in May. A 10-18 record for the month pretty much cemented the club in last place, in a division so weak that the frickin' Louisville Sluggers are in first place. The humanity.

Starter of the Month

Dominick Bromley
Yes, Chip Foodie has the lower ERA. But DomBrom was the more dominant pitcher, going deeper into more games and actually earning decisions, to the tune of a 3-1, 2.63 ERA performance for the month. He walked 22 over 5 starts in May, but also allowed only 26 hits in 37.2 innings.

Reliever of the Month

Aurelio Rodriguez
A-Rod picked up right where he left off last season, posting a 2.45 ERA in 14.2 innings this past month. That fact, coupled with the recent struggles of young fireballer Chad Jordan, is what prompted Bobwhites manager Joe Rudi to once again name Rodriguez the closer going forward.

Infielder of the Month

Paco Morales
Believe it, Paco is back! After a ho-hum 2005 in which he hit a career-low .274, Morales stormed out of the gate in April and kept right on going into May, actually increasing his walk rate to bring his monthly slash line to .365/.436/.567. He even has about 3 of those WARs everyone keeps talking about!

Outfielder of the Month

Jim "Country Justice" Wilson
Astute readers (assuming there ARE readers to begin with) will recall that Wilson took April honors in this category with pedestrian numbers, for lack of anyone better. Well this time, it is definitely legit, as the 26 year old slugger hit .313 with 8 home runs and 22 RBI. Word is that the Bobs have begun the process of preparing a long term deal for Wilson, with a goal of getting an agreement in place this offseason.

INJURY REPORT
C Rande Sorbo remains on the 60 Day DL with a broken hand, and should begin a minor league rehab assignment by July.
RF Mike Clarke has been recalled to the active roster and is at most a couple days away from rejoining the lineup after an ankle injury.
