Bobby Beat 2005 v7: May Players of the Month

After an April that saw the team 1 game under .500, the month of May was rather kind to the Bobwhite faithful. In fact, a 16-13 month saw the Bobs only a game and a half out as play concluded on May 31. That, coupled with management's trade for another legitimate starting pitcher, has fans on the street starting to take notice.
Starter of the Month
Dominick Bromley
DomBrom was the main player the club received in the Waichirou Moronobu trade, so expectations have been high from the start. After a rough April, the 27 year old righty is finally starting to get it together, going 2-1 with a 2.68 ERA in 40 innings for the month.
Reliever of the Month
Chester "Word" Palabra
As the month wore on, Palabra started to get more save opportunities than entrenched closer James Endres. He was largely successful, and that fact, coupled with the emergence of 24 year old closer Chad Jordan, allowed the team to deal Endres for a starter. Palabra was 2-0 with a 3.09 ERA and 5 saves in May.
Infielder of the Month
Lamont Poper
Although 1B Darius Campbell Jr. had a much higher batting average in May, it was Poper who seemed to be getting the big hits all month. The gritty fan favorite smoked 9 home runs, drove in 18, and had a slash line of .271/.381/.615. He also leads the team in walks as well as stolen bases.
Outfielder of the Month
Jim "Country Justice" Wilson
.345-11-24 in one month. Those are the numbers MVP's are made of. Jim Wilson is wasting no time following up his 55 HR performance last year with an even better campaign in 2005. The main difference between this season and last is a much better batting average, which was above .330 as the month drew to a close.
