It’s been quite a journey for Giustino Mojica. The 23-year-old pitcher was born in San Marino and raised in Italy before being drafted in the third round by the London Monarchs in the 2051 GBC draft. By the end of the 2055 season he became a free agent and was signed by the Sacramento Mad Popes a week later for a cool million bucks. He was released less than a year later and Nashville signed him for $810k a couple months later. Quite the paydays for a guy who never seemed to be able to stick on a roster. The Bluebirds front office saw the potential, though, and were rewarded for their patience. By the end of 2057, Modica had developed a screwball. It wasn’t the best, but it was a third pitch to throw in with his sinker, curveball combo. He improved his velocity, as well, and became an immediate weapon in the bullpen, helping the Orlando Oranges clinch the 2057 championship despite only pitching the final inning of the AAA season.

Modica made the Bluebirds’ Opening Day roster in 2058 and became the first BBA player born in San Marino. His 0.80 ERA in 33.2 IP in Single A was more than enough merit to be promoted to AA, where he continued with 1.23 ERA in 7.1 IP. As mentioned, he finished the season in AAA and recorded the final three outs, striking out the side. He will be used out of the bullpen in Nashville this season in a middle relief role, but could be used as a stopper if he proves he belongs at the BBA level. He could even serve as an emergency starter, if needed. Not the most exciting prospect, but he will add value as a reliever and is fully developed.
