Bishr Goes 6-6, Hits for Cycle

When Wafid Bishr signed an extension to keep playing baseball with the Bluebirds, it was met with plenty of skepticism. Of course, fans loved the idea of extending the two-time Silk winner, but financial pundits wondered exactly how much value Bishr offered the team with several viable candidates looking to breakthrough into the BBA. Was $80 million over six years too much money for a first baseman? No, not when that guy is Wafid Bishr.

Sure to not leave anyone disappointed, Bishr is having another phenomenal year at the plate, proving to both fans and front office nerds that he is worth the money. In 117 games, Bishr is slashing .304/.354/.618 with 33 HR and 16 SB. In Sunday’s game against the Lumberjacks, the slugger went 6-6 on the way to hitting for the cycle in the 17-4 Bluebirds victory.

“I’m just doing my thing,” Bishr said in the on-field interview before being blasted with the water cooler. “I guess I deserved that, but the boys know I’ll get them back. Anyway, while I’ve had what some people consider to be decent seasons the past couple years, it’s not up to my standards. I know I’m capable of so much more and Mr. Nason knew it, too. I’m glad to be a Bluebird for life and I’ll do my best to keep earning my keep.”

Bishr is on pace for 6.3 WAR, which would be his highest since he posted 8.7 WAR in 2052 when he won his second consecutive Silk award. He has stiff competition to earn his third Silk award with slick fielding teammate, Crissy Tingle, who threw out two runners trying to score in Sunday’s massacre. Tingle is on pace for 6.8 WAR and trails Omaha’s Luis Mendoza who leads the league with an 8.0 WAR pace.
