It wasn’t long into retirement before Lorenzo de’ Medici got bored. It makes sense. He begged to pitch every day when he was with the Bluebirds. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that the future Hall of Famer didn’t want to sit on his hands in retirement. It has been announced that he has agreed to become a pitching coach in Nashville’s farm system.

“I tried golf,” said de’ Medici. “It just wasn’t for me. I’m a baseball player. I realize my playing days are well beyond me, but it’s still in my blood. I have a few things I hope I can teach the next generation.”

de’ Medici will begin working with the Santo Domingo Sea Turtles in Short A where he hopes to develop young pitchers into Bluebirds. Players were both excited and scared with the announcement with SP Alvin Evans saying “Oh [expletive]. He’s gonna make us throw every day, huh? I guess it’s for the best to learn from the best. I’m sure we’ll be pushed beyond our limits and the strong will survive.”

Good to see Lorenzo mentoring the next generation. Even though he was with us for a short time, I liked having him as a Robin.
