While the franchise has been around for decades, the Nashville Bluebirds do not have a long history of success since moving to the city in 2033 and rebranding to the Bluebirds in 2040. Alberto Rodríguez was an integral part of the franchise’s turnaround, being drafted by the Nashville Goats in 2038 in the 2nd round. Three trades later and the young backstop would make his debit for the Nashville Bluebirds in 2040 and the club didn’t have to worry about position for over a decade.

Rodríguez had a career slash line of .262/.323/.463 with 236 HR over 14 seasons, 12 of which were in Nashville. He was a five time all-star and five time Charles Puckett Golden Bat award winner at catcher, but aside from his tangible contributions to the Bluebirds, he will most likely be remembered for his leadership skills.

“A-Rod is forever a Bluebird,” said GM Chad Nason. “When I arrived to Nashville, I saw a pile of broken parts with a handful of useful parts. Alberto was someone I knew we could build this club around. He excelled at the most difficult position in baseball and helped those around him. His leadership vaulted us to the club’s first title since 2017. Alberto is family and we would love to have him on staff one day.”

Rodríguez retired following the 2054 season which he spent with Portland’s AA team in Alpine Valley, where he was able to go out on top with a championship. Due to his efforts on and off the field, the Bluebirds held a ceremony to retire his #23.

“I continue to be humbled by these honors,” said Rodríguez. “I always dreamed of being in the BBA, but I could never envision having my number retired. I hope my journey shows young players to keep grinding and give baseball your all. Don’t take anything for granted and grind every day to be the best player you can be. Thank you to the greatest fans in the world! I love you!”
