Art Cherry. Read his name quickly. The 24 year old southpaw’s secret weapon is his precision, like that of an archer. His parents, ‘Pop’ and Shirley, are both former Olympians in archery and opened their own archery range outside of Indianapolis. Originally drafted in the 2nd round of the 2050 draft by the Phoenix Talons, Cherry became a free agent after failing to sign. Which is weird, because in a draft with no talent, sure looks like this was a steal in the 2nd round. He was probably deemed too young for the Toledo Liberty, so Nashville scooped him up for a mere $85,000 signing bonus and sent him to directly to A ball in Springdale, where he struggled mightily his first two seasons.

However, as Cherry’s pitches began moving more, he blossomed into a solid pitcher and sported a 2.14 ERA in 2052 in AA High Point and was named the 2052 WCL (AA) DRK Todd Demko Hurler Award winner. He was promoted to AAA Orlando in 2053, where he saw continued success with a 3.78 ERA despite a .341 BABIP. Over the past two seasons, Cherry has allowed fewer than 2 BB/9, but his ability to keep the ball in the park is his best attribute. Cherry doesn’t blow pitches by batters, in fact, his fastball doesn’t even hit 90 MPH, but his craftiness on the mound makes him great. He features a devastating changeup which helped him to a 0.57 HR/9 over the past three seasons. Unfortunately, the Nashville staff is crowded, so Cherry will likely be in Orlando again this season, but he could have a solid BBA career with a different team.
