When Eduardo Morales was selected with he 40th overall pick in 2050, the Bluebirds knew what they were getting. There was no expectation of Morales to breakout into a superstar, but he fit well in their organization to build outfield depth with the possibility of being a role player in the BBA. And that’s exactly what Morales has become. Nothing much has changed in Morales’ game since being drafted, in fact, he’s been eerily too consistent. In 2053 he had an OPS of .814 – 2054 was .817 – both years accumulating 4.1 WAR. Again, nothing great, but certainly good enough to be a 4th or 5th outfielder for the Bluebirds. Morales is a good outfielder who can play all three area, though he best suited for left field. He has good plate discipline and jumps on balls in his wheelhouse with good power. If he played every day, he could easily hit 20+ HR a season in the BBA. He has a good shot at being plugged into the Bluebirds lineups against southpaws this season, but his true value will be off the bench when he can spell the regulars a bit of rest and swipe critical bases late in games. He stole 30 bases in AAA last season and that can come in clutch in the postseason in tight games. We would love to see his bat-to-ball skills increase and if he figures that out he has all-star potential.
