RHP Jim ’91 Cents’ Fleming
Drafted by the Bluebirds in the 2nd round of the 2048 draft, Fleming hopes to join first round selection, Eric Stevens, on the Nashville pitching staff. Fleming is a polar opposite of Stevens as far as his repertoire and relies on deception rather than straight gas. In fact, he added a cutter to his arsenal last season, which helped him win the 2053 CPL (A) PL Jack Sellers Pitcher Award. His changeup is devastating to hitters on both sides of the plate and helped him induce 62% of his outs on the ground, however, the other four pitches he offers aren’t spectacular.
He has pitched well at every level he has faced and will likely start the season with the Orlando Oranges, who the Shelbyville native says, “I’m glad they’re not the Lemons! It was hard enough pitching for a team in Springdale last season…too similar to those bums in Springfield. Gives me the creeps!”
Depending on how he pitches this spring, Fleming could slot into the Bluebirds bullpen, but a chance at the rotation is not out of the questions. The righty has shown a ton of improvement in 2053 and already has everyone buzzing this offseason with his offseason regiment. Expect more great things in 2054.
