Canó was actually discovered by Bluebirds GM Chad Nason by accident while vacationing in Puerto Rico in 2048. The savvy GM, always keeping an eye open for talent, realized the brute strength of Canó on a fishing boat when the 16 year-old was a deck hand on his father’s charter fishing boat. Not only did Canó spot the bait fish boiling near the surface of the water from several hundred yards away, but as Nason struggled to reel in a colossus blue marlin, the kid was able to maneuver the fish close enough to the boat where he reached down and lifted the 600 pound fish onto the boat by himself. Nason had a contract sent to shore and was signed by Canó the moment the boat docked.

Of course, being raised in Puerto Rico, Canó was not new to the sport of baseball. However, he had given up the sport as he was not very good and didn’t envision a future on the diamond. While he possesses great natural strength, he wasn’t able to translate that into homeruns. He was promoted to Lynchville in 2052 and showed a little promise with a .333 OBP earning him a spot in Springdale for the 2053 season. Canó was overmatched and struggled mightily against older competition, however scouts continue to be enamored with his potential, with some comparing him to current Bluebirds star, Wafid Bishr. Ironically, Canó could force himself out of the hot corner and end up playing 1B, so he is a candidate to replace Bishr if the two-time Silk winner opts for free agency a couple years. Rumor has it that Canó has been studying the game tremendously the past year and coaches say he has become very intelligent, so time will tell if that translates on the field. Keep an eye on him this season.

Cano played pretty well in Single A in 2054 and boasted a .761 OPS, which isn't great, but he showed improvement along the way. The 22 year old has been moved to 1B and will begin the season in AA. He'll still likely need some seasoning in the minors, so best case scenario is a September call up in 2056, though 2057 seems much more reasonable.

Cano did alright in AA in 2055, but was hoping to see better results. His power is nearly fully developed and I hope he makes a big impact in AAA this season. Unfortunately, he is sporting a .696 OPS right now, but I'm not too worried. Still only 23 and nowhere to play him in BBA anyway. Possible replacement for Bishr if I don't re-sign him. If his bat comes around, might even be worth playing a terrible 3B.

Cano was once top dog in the BBA top prospects list, but a few have jumped ahead of him in the rankings. He still appears to a powerful weapon in the making and needs a little more polishing to become fully developed, but he very well could see the BBA this season in a short side platoon, at least. His IF error and IF arm just got slight bumps, so his future as a 3B is a little more solid as long as his bat comes around. He finished 3rd in voting for AAA's top hitter last year with a slash line of .267/.344/.510.
