The Bluebirds have struggled against LHP this season and when Barry Kelly went on the IL due to back pain, it was finally time to pull the trigger on a suitable replacement. GM Chad Nason phoned Vegas GM Matt Rectenwald since the two have a history of easy trade talks. Vegas had recently sent Jen-kan Zhai to the minors after a horrific start to the season, so Nason pulled the trigger on a deal sending two minor leaguers to Vegas in exchange for the young outfielder.
“We really like Jen-kan,” said Nason. “We took a good look at him ahead of the 2047 draft, but we were floored when Marty fell to us. Jen-kan was on our shortlist and we believe he was one of the best talents in the draft, so it’s nice to have two of the best hitters in that class in our outfield.”

Zhai was batting just .209 for the Hustlers in 2051, but batted .318 in 2050 and the Bluebirds believe he can hit like his former self. In 33 Abs as a Bluebird, Zhai is hitting .364 and should see time atop the lineup versus southpaws, but is also a valuable weapon on the bench with his elite speed and stealing ability.
“I’m very excited about the move to Nashville. My wife has been wanting to open a restaurant, but the market was too saturated in Vegas. We are already looking over lease options in downtown Nashville for Zhai Thai. Her pad see ew will take Tennessee by storm. I’ll be entering arbitration next season so I might be able to finally afford something.”
