Bobby Beat 2003 v3: Meet the Draftees!!

It was a great year to have a lot of picks.
Due to the debacle that was the 2002 draft, the Bobs had an extra first round pick and a couple extra third rounders. They would have had another 2nd rounder, but that was lost as compensation for signing free agent RF Mike Clarke. In any case, the team is very pleased with how things went, and GM Sean Marko says the club won't let bonus demands get in the way of signing these young players. Lets meet the newest Bobwhites!
Round 1, pick 4: Morgan "The Tornado" Ackerman is a future #2 starter in the big leagues, with only the lack of an overwhelming fastball preventing him from being an ace. Ackerman relies on control, movement, and a shutdown changeup to carve through lineups. Smart and hard working, Ackerman still has room to fill out his 6'1" frame.
Round 1, pick 9: Jacob Bryant is the Bobs' All Star outfielder of the future. Still very raw out of high school, Bryant is already 6'2"/ 195 lbs and projects to be a tremendous power threat. Having already drafted Ackerman, the club felt it could afford to draft Bryant, a prospect who may be further away than most. But all scouts agree it will be worth the wait.
Round 2, pick 39: Owen Wedgeworth Spiekermann, a high school lefty reliever, might have been a bit of a reach here. But the club likes his stuff, and thinks Spiekermann could eventually be a major league setup man. Once again, he is only 18 and has plenty of room to surprise people.
Round 3, pick 66: Jon Parker is a switch hitting power prospect who projects to be an average defensive outfielder. Known as one of the hardest working prospects in the draft, Parker has a fairly good chance of improving his contact skills and possibly becoming a starter someday.
Round 3, pick 70: Carl Stewart, another relief prospect out of high school, has a great arm and could even be a second tier closer down the road.
Round 3, pick 72: Santiago Trevino projects to be en excellent defensive third baseman and could easily be a major league backup in a couple of seasons.
Round 4, pick 94: Mark Anderson. The Bobwhites were thrilled to get Anderson this late. With speed, defense, and gap power, this corner OF prospect definately has a future in the bigs.
Round 5, pick 118: Jeremy Bombderman currently projects to be a 4-A pitcher, but if his control matures like the club thinks it will, he could see a few innings in the bigs sooner or later.
Not a bad haul for a club that desperately needs prospects on any kind. Now lets hope they all sign!
