Hemming Given Chance to Shine

When the Nashville Bluebirds were sitting with the 11th pick in the 2047 Amateur Draft, they were expected to take the best player available. Many were surprised to see RF Martin Hemming still on the board, who was arguably the best hitter available in the draft. Hemming was one of the top perennial hitters at the college level and many scouts believed he could fit into a BBA lineup straight out of the draft, however, Nashville was already loaded with corner outfielders. So to AAA he went to join the Orlando Oranges to fine tune his skills.
RF Martin Hemming
The young right fielder didn’t need to do much to prove he belonged in the BBA. In 52 games for the Oranges, Hemming slashed .327/.378/.531 and showed improvement defensively. Bluebirds DH Matt Garrison started strongly in Nashville with an OPS of .990 in June, but disappeared thereafter collecting only five hits combined in the months on July and August. His failures opened up a spot for Hemming to try his hand against Frick League pitching.
“Garrison is a special hitter,” said GM Chad Nason. “But we are in the middle of a wildcard race and we just can’t afford to wait for Matt’s bat to wake up again. We think moving Mendoza to DH and calling up the kid will help us.”
If the first two weeks are anything to take seriously, Hemming will have a very bright future in Nashville. Through his first 13 games, Hemming is slashing .419/.468/.558 including a pair of homers. The Bluebirds are currently tied for the last spot in wild card race and have a month of baseball remaining. September will be a very trying schedule and will require Hemming to continue his torrid pace for Nashville to make the playoffs for the first time since 2041.

I really wasn’t planning on bringing him up this year, but Garrison REALLY shit the bed after a hot start.

i brought up maccoll after about 2 weeks in AAA, I needed an upgrade in CF as early as i could get it given that I was/am in both the Pacific and WC race (the latter against you...)

Garrison is also too good a hitter to be that bad for long. BTW, did bring up Lara. If I want him in the playoffs it's now or never.

Funnily enough, I send Garrison down and he bumps his power to 10 vs RHP, not to mention up to 8 vs LHP.aaronweiner wrote: ↑Sat Jul 17, 2021 8:41 amGarrison is also too good a hitter to be that bad for long. BTW, did bring up Lara. If I want him in the playoffs it's now or never.
