RHP Alexander Higgins
Higgins was signed as a minor league free agent in 2041 for $765,000. While that may not seem like a lot for a top 10 organizational prospect, it turned out to be quite the investment for the infamous pitcher out of Wollongong, Australia. Higgins famously pitched his Australian Little League team to the country’s first LLWS championship appearance just four years prior, in which he hurled two no-hitters in the tournament. The Bluebirds recently signed his LLWS teammate, Edwin Ashton to a minor league contract. Higgins continued to impress in high school, but his development was deemed to have peaked by most scouts.
Determined to prove scouts wrong, the 6’4” right hander has moved up the ranks and raised his fastball velocity from the high 80s to the high 90s. By adding a sinker to his repertoire and seeing great improvement in his changeup, Higgins has been fighting to prove he is worthy of a BBA rotation, however, his control still struggles most of the time and Bluebirds scouts currently have him pegged as a bullpen role despite having four plus pitches. Higgins will be available in 2047 as a replacement bullpen piece or emergency starter if someone is to go down with injury, but he does not have the control to stick in the rotation long term at the moment. With increased control Higgins has the stuff to become a top of the rotation starter, but time will tell.
