Ata Shipped to Vegas

As Spring Training broke, the Nashville Bluebirds were projected to miss the playoffs yet again. Despite a core of Tony Frost, Kidane Ata, and Alberto Rodríguez in the middle of the lineup, the team was never able to put it all together and notoriously floundered towards the end of the season. A hot start has usually kept Nashville in the playoff race early on, but after a 7-20 start in April, the 2046 season looked rather bleak.

“We try to put the best team on the field with our current resources, but at this time, we think it is a great opportunity to collect resources for the future,” said GM Chad Nason. “We wanted to extract as much valuable as possible, so I got on the phone with our favorite trade partner and got to work building our future.”

That favorite trade partner is, of course, none other than former Nashville GM, Matt Rectenwald, who is now running the Las Vegas Hustlers. This is the sixth time in three years the two teams have come to terms on a trade agreement and this time it is a blockbuster trade sending Ata to Sin City.

“Vegas’ new stadium is built for right handed batters like Ata. We worked hard to upgrade our infield defense to elite and by adding Ata we feel the outfield is as good as any in the league,” said Rectenwald.

Ata was drafted by Nashville in the first round of the 2036 amateur draft as a two-way player, but was seen as a superior outfielder when Nason took over as GM despite decent numbers on the mound. In his nine seasons in Nashville, Ata batted .253 with 182 homeruns, taking home the 2039 Zimmer Diamond Glove award in CF. Vegas will send veteran CF Po-sin Shi to Nashville along with minor leaguers, Candy Saswata, Kazuyoshi Ohayashi, Rich Dares, and Abay Azzouzj, who returns after less than a year after being traded for Dan Forsyth prior to last year’s trade deadline.
