When the Sacramento Mad Popes shopped around Jesús López in the middle of the season, only Nashville GM, Chad Nason, was foolish enough to answer the phone. The talented right hander had seen minor success in limited starts for Sacramento in 2044, but struggled in 2045. Nashville would have settled for a struggling López, but in return they received an embarrassment to the sport of baseball. López would spend the rest of the 2045 in Nashville handing out free passes. Perhaps he thought of some new strategy using his groundball inducing ability to get two outs at a time because nothing explains his 5.3 BB/9 in Nashville for a pitcher who is known to have good control.

“I’M A STARTING PITCHER AND I DEMAND TO PLAY IN A PLACE THAT WON’T BURY ME IN THE BULLPEN,” said López. “I DID MY BEST TO FORCE MY HAND AND MAKE THE TEAM RELEASE ME, BUT THEY KEPT THROWING ME OUT THERE TO BLOW GAMES. IT’S MIND BOGGLING!!!”

López has a $4M player option for 2046. Although he is upset with the team and his role, perhaps his greed will consume him and he will take his money and force his hand for release later into the season.

Once upon a time I thought he'd be a stud.
That was sixteen years ago already!

I never realized how long he had been around until I wrote the article and looked at his player page.

Lopez was just ushering people to first base. Maybe greener pastures will capture his eye.
